SWEET MADELEINE
The parents must be thinking ...
at the dawn of each new day
Our DARLING CHILD, Our PRIDE and JOY..
Was spirited away...
A searing ache invades them
Piercing heart and soul...
A cloak of desolation.
They feel so lost... alone.
While dearest friends draw near them,
Offering all their love..
Through raindrop tears on bended knees..
They PLEAD with God above...>
''OH! LORD OUR GOD
please hear our sighs...
Return the girl with the Angel eyes..
And silken hair of honey-gold...
She belongs to the family fold
SHE'S ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD:
'May' flowers bloom and blossom
Their heads NOW bending low...
As if they sense a sadness here
As though, somehow, they KNOW...
Songbirds fly in the morning sky,
Through fair and misty weather..
Strangely know the secret too.
They seem to chant together...>
'' OH! GOD IN HEAVEN....>
Hear our cries ...
Restore the child with the laughing smile...
If YOU could ...but ... hear our plea..
We'll sing in for thee in harmony..
If you will search in every glen...
Oh! JESUS! bring her home again...
We pray you scan the oceans wild..
That you might glimpse the stolen child..
And LOOK in EVERY place between...
Until you find sweet MADELEINE:
By kind permission of
Grace Nerissa, Dublin
"All of Europe is caught up with the case of the beautiful little girl, Madeline who was stolen away from her bed in Portugal last week.. This, sadly was her birthday she became four to-day...
I was thinking of her two nights ago and felt tearful about it, out of the tears came these words that I formed as half poem half prayer, and on Madeline's birthday, I offer them here."
Grace Nerissa
I know a place where the sun is like gold.
And the cherry blooms burst with snow;
And down underneath is the loveliest nook,
Where the four-leaf clovers grow.
One leaf is for hope, and one for faith.
And one is for love you know;
But God put another in for luck--
If you search, you will find where they grow.
But you must have hope, and you must have faith;
You must love and be strong' and so.
If you work, if you wait, you will find the place
Where the four-leaf clovers grow.
